Nature Study Camp 2007

(June 3-8, 2007
Otyokwah Camp & Retreat Center
3380 Tugend Road, Butler, OH 44822)

Nature Study Camp 2006 was another week well spent. It was our second year at Camp Kirkwood, in Wilmington, Ohio. Campers renewed old friendships and created new ones. We had adventures hiking at Cedar Falls Nature Preserve and Siebenthaler Fen, as well as the trails at Camp Kirkwood. We learned of early Ohio life at Fort Ancient, including gardening, and tried our hands at playing ancient games. We met a friendly snake at the Caesar Creek Nature Center, and enjoyed a tour of the Pioneer Village across the road. All of these were great introductions to areas we can hope to revisit with family members, as well as garden club friends.

We had our early morning bird walks, a hayride, our always entertaining plant sale, and a campfire just like last year. Some folks fished, some swam, some boated, some just enjoyed relaxing on the deck overlooking the lake. All in all, we had a great time.

Plans are in the works for Nature Study Camp 2007. It will be held June 3-8th. Camp president Shelia Curtis has found a wonderful new site for us. We will be going to Camp Otyokwah, near Mohican State Park. The camp is beautiful, with lots of hiking trails, and there are lots of things to do and see in the area. Details here

If you’ve never come to Nature Study Camp, try to make it this coming year. You’ll never meet a nicer group of people, and never have so much fun learning about nature in our beautiful state.
