LINE is the basic
element of all line, line-mass and Japanese designs. It leads the eye
along a definite path from one point to the next in uninterrupted
sequence. It may be continuous or interrupted, but may not be obviously
interrupted.

Inverted "T" Design |

"L" Shaped Design
Line may be obtained by
repetition or a curving stem and blooms related in size and color.
Vertical line is inspirational and suggests strength.
|
Horizontal line suggests
peace and rest - diagonal line restlessness.
A line that changes direction back and forth along an axis is called a
zigzag. Curved lines suggest gracefulness, flexibility and motion,
creating a rhythmic flow

Diagonal Design |
|
A mass design may be
defined as one in which large mass of flowers is emphasized rather than
the individual flower heads. It always has fullness and a minimum of
voids.

Mass Design
|
The mass may be one sided or
designed for viewing from all sides (freestanding.) It may be very compact
or loose open and airy.

Triangular Mass
|
You should see a shape that
resembles any of the geometric forms such as cylinder, cone, sphere,
pyramid or oval with few voids

Horizontal Design
. There is an emphasis on repetition, contrast and texture.
Contemporary mass, period arrangements, bouquets and mound designs employ
the massing technique, filling the entire space with flowers and plant
material. |
