Qualifications of Judges 

      Accredited Judges in the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs , (OAGC), are certified after they have completed all prescribed courses in six judging schools held over the course of 3 years. They must have passed all courses within the curriculum which include artistic design and many horticulture topics.
        Categories of, basic, creative, abstract, period and oriental designs are a few examples. There is much emphasis on horticulture, which includes plant identification and the basis for judging selected plant species which are included in the schools.  Some of the cultivars incorporated are annuals and perennials, roses, dahlias, lilies, succulents and cacti, vegetables, chrysanthemums, gladioli, daffodils, container grown plants, ornamental grasses and many others.
     OAGC Judges are willing and able to judge alone and give oral comments as to the merits and faults of designs and horticulture exhibits. They judge many types of flower shows from single club shows to regional, county and state fair shows. The OAGC objective is to educate the gardening public with timely information relating to gardening and by rendering constructive criticism of exhibits.
     OAGC Judges are required to remain up to date and  must attend 6 of the 12 days of school in a 3 year span to retain their certification. In this way they are current in their knowledge of ever changing formats in the artistic design and horticulture domain  as it applies to the  flower show arena

Judge Emeritus List:

OAGC honors judges who are currently accredited judges but can no longer maintain their status due to age and/or physical condition. If they request recognition from the Board of Directors, through the Executive Committee, the designation of OAGC Judge Emeritus is given to each.  In some cases the honor has been bestowed upon judges who no longer live in Ohio. With this title recognizing their years of service, they will be listed as OAGC Judges Emeriti, but will not judge flower shows entered into competition. This is not an automatic process - it is granted only if a judge requests it.
