As members of the Apple Valley Garden Club, we share our love of gardening, expand our knowledge of the natural world around us, and enhance the beauty of our community. Whether you love digging in soil and caring for plants, or designing floral arrangements, or communing with nature—the Apple Valley Garden club has it all.

Our regular service projects include: ● Maintain and improve Apple Valley Memorial Garden ● Plant and decorate Howard flower containers ● Decorate Apple Valley Club House for winter holidays ● Deliver vases of members’ flowers to area nursing homes ● Participate in and volunteer for the Knox County Garden Clubs Flower Show ● Decorate a holiday tree to raise funds for Food for the Hungry ● Host booth at our local Johnny Appleseed Bazaar, featuring handmade or homegrown items ● Hold community Plant Sale in spring ● Volunteer for Red Cross Blood Drive

January 20: Presentation on the Sara Dykman book, “Bicycling with Butterflies,” by AVGC member Jana Stewart

February 17: “Bulb Fundamentals! Understanding True Bulbs, Corms, Tubers, and Rhizomes,” with Sabrina Schirtzinger, OSU Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Educator

March 17: “Fun with Dried Flowers,” with Wendy Forbes, owner of Forbes Homestead Market,  Perrysville

April 21: Club Excursion—Amish Garden Shop Hop

May 1, 9 am –1 pm: Apple Valley Garden Club Plant Sale, Apple Valley Memorial Garden (next to AV POA headquarters, off Rt. 36) 

May 19: Club Excursion--Walking Tour of Ackerman Nature Preserve, Fredericktown

June 16: Club Excursion—Tour of The Woodlands, Knox County Park District, Mt. Vernon

July 21: “Green Teens,” a program highlighting the work of Knox Co. teens who volunteer in community gardens

August 18: “Got Flowers? What’s Next?” presented by AVGC member Pat Miller 

September 15: Club Excursion--“Perennial Power: Proven Winners and New Varieties,” presented by Morgan Pletcher, Manager, Country Colors Greenhouse, Fredericktown

The Apple Valley Garden Club continues to grow, with new members joining us throughout the year to enjoy our lively monthly meetings, engaging programs about gardening and the natural world, occasional field trips, and numerous service projects to enhance our community.
