Virtual Convention, June 2021

Virtual OAGC 2021 Convention

Since the pandemic is preventing us from safely meeting in person for the OAGC 2021 Convention, we have developed a virtual experience. The programs will be valuable for the inexperienced gardener, Master Gardener, and everyone in between. Sessions will be enjoyable for all those already hooked on gardening and might even inspire someone to establish their very first garden! Our convention will be conducted the second Thursday and Friday evenings of June, July, and August. All sessions feature a speaker; Thursday sessions begin with a fun-filled “Happy Hour” including games, awards and door prizes. Everyone registered will be eligible to win, but must be virtually present when their name is drawn. The entire schedule is listed below.

Paid registrants can view a recording of all the lectures except “Success with Vegetables” on for two weeks following its presentation. All six sessions are included for one flat fee. Anyone planning to attend the live sessions or view recordings should register using the form below.

Whether your garden consists of a single pot or extends to an acre, may it bring you great joy.

Let’s garden!

Follow Farmer Rudy on a journey to explore the world of Strange, Weird and Unusual Vegetables that you can grow. A world where beets aren’t always red, sometimes spinach isn’t really spinach, carrots can be purple, melons have horns and rat tails can be eaten! Sit back, relax and you will even see the moon and stars.

Rudy Moyer is a Master Gardener, past President of the Stark County Master Gardeners, and 1996 Stark County Master Gardener of the Year. Many of his 20+ years in the Green Industry has included employing individuals with developmental disabilities to plant, grow, harvest and sell vegetables utilizing season extension techniques. He also introduced free cooking classes to the public (Chef Rudy) at the store at Pegasus Farm and has done many cooking demonstrations throughout Stark County, including the Stark County Fair and the Stark County Board of Health. 7:00 pm Success with Vegetables C.L. Fornari
You don’t have to be a foodie to want homegrown vegetables. Produce that’s right from the garden tastes better, is better for you because it’s fresher, and contains a deep satisfaction factor. It used to be that veggie gardens were confined to the backyard or the farm, but now even those with small yards, urban balconies, or other tiny spaces can grow their own food. This talk presents some of the newer ways to grow your own food, some “tricks of the trade” and some varieties that succeed against all odds.

C.L. Fornari is the author of eight books, including Coffee for Roses and The Cocktail Hour Garden. She’s a professional speaker, the host of GardenLine on WXTK, and co-host of the Plantrama podcast. Her not-so-secret mission is to put horticulture back into popular culture. In the meantime, she grows vegetables, flowers, shrubs and trees at Poison Ivy Acres on Cape Cod. You can read her blog at
