The Ohio Association of Garden Clubs Exhibitors and Judges School will continue to meet the needs of our membership, despite the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Christine Michael and Charlene Margetiak, state E & J co-chairs.

We will be offering School #1 on April 9 and 10, 2021, in a virtual format via Zoom which is a computer application. You will need to register with OAGC and pay $45 for access to the virtual school. We are offering two payment options; by check or online through PayPal. After OAGC receives your registration and payment, you will be issued a “Zoom invitation.”

(NOTE: You have the option of selecting one or both days with no price break for one day attendance. The price for the school is $45.00. Expenses such as instructor fee are still incurred. We appreciate your understanding.)

Meeting the challenges of technology, we are offering free Zoom training sessions to members in the weeks prior to the school so they can become comfortable with the application.
The deadline for School #1 registration is March 19. There will be a $20 late fee for registrations post marked after that date.

Topics scheduled for Virtual School #1 include:

  • Elements and Principals of Design;
  • Color Theory;
  • Mechanics;
  • Period Designs I;
  • Daffodils, Tulips, and Spring Bulbs;
  • Round, Spray and Spike Flowers;
  • Blooming Trees and Shrubs;
  • Plant Identification;
  • Judging and Judging Procedures
  • There will also be a special Design Study session.

To get the most knowledge from this “virtual school”, the topics will be presented in Modules. Each module will consist of Chapter reading, a study guide, and possible links to related videos, the instructor presentation with hands on participation and a Q and A session.

All topics will follow this module format. Participants should review the chapters in the OAGC Handbook for Exhibitors and Judges prior to the school, just as in the past. Copies of the handbook may be purchased from the OAGC Sales Secretary, Naomi Ormes at oagcsalessec@gmail.com

At a future date, student judges will complete written tests, in person, proctored by the E&J chairs or designated representatives. The tests will be offered in a safe environment.

Every paid participant registered by March 19, will be entered into a drawing for a free registration to School #2.

This “virtual” school promises to be as educational and informative as our “in-person” schools of the past. We look forward to having you participate.
