Virtual Convention, August 2021
Virtual OAGC 2021 Convention
Since the pandemic is preventing us from safely meeting in person for the OAGC 2021 Convention, we have developed a virtual experience. The programs will be valuable for the inexperienced gardener, Master Gardener, and everyone in between. Sessions will be enjoyable for all those already hooked on gardening and might even inspire someone to establish their very first garden! Our convention will be conducted the second Thursday and Friday evenings of June, July, and August. All sessions feature a speaker; Thursday sessions begin with a fun-filled “Happy Hour” including games, awards and door prizes. Everyone registered will be eligible to win, but must be virtually present when their name is drawn. The entire schedule is listed below.
Paid registrants can view a recording of all the lectures except “Success with Vegetables” on www.oagc.org for two weeks following its presentation. All six sessions are included for one flat fee. Anyone planning to attend the live sessions or view recordings should register using the form below.
Whether your garden consists of a single pot or extends to an acre, may it bring you great joy.

7:05 pm Soil Science Simplified Laura Deeter
Dirt is under your fingernails. Soil is the living substrate supporting all kinds of life and not just our plants. And while the chemistry, physics, and microbiology can get complicated, it doesn’t have to be! Gardeners can learn much through a few simple home tests and some basics. It’s not overwhelming; it’s soil science, simplified!
Laura Deeter received her PhD in horticulture from The Ohio State University after studying road-salt tolerance in herbaceous perennials under Dr. Steve Still. She is currently a Full Professor of Horticulture at Ohio State ATI in Wooster, OH teaching a multitude of horticulture classes including: Woody and Herbaceous Plant Identification, Landscape Design, Sustainable Landscaping, Plant Health Management, Landscape Construction, and Ecology, to name a few. She was awarded the ATI Distinguished Teaching Award twice, the OSU Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Perennial Plant Association Teaching Award the American Horticulture Society Teaching Award, and the Perennial Plant Association Service Award. She travels extensively around the country speaking on a variety of topics ranging from taxonomy and nomenclature to shade gardens, design, color, and specialty gardens and plants. At home she gardens on her tenth of an acre with her hubby, three dogs, 100 pink flamingos and counts her 300+ species of perennials as dear friends.
